12/13/09 - PM Update

Aiden weighs 4 lbs 3 oz tonight! I'm not McDonald's but "I'm lovin' it!"

Had a great day! NO BRADY's!!! Made dad want to rush the first family photo, put him back, and leave him be. Didn't want to trigger one. Anxious for a whole 24 hrs with no Brady's. Has to go 5 days straight before coming home.

Aiden had lots of spunk tonight. Very active and strong body movements. Could tell he was well rested. Big difference from yesterday.

Brought Brandon and Mikayla with us for a family pic. Nurse took it so nobody would be left out. Will post later. If it looks like he's in a Christmas stocking, well, he is. Says Baby's 1st Christmas on it. Couldn't find a Baby's 1st Christmas baby outfit that would fit so had to improvise. Worked out pretty well. Aiden squirmed the whole time making it difficult to hold him for the family pic.

Still feeding 37ml's. Ate one full bottle earlier and another feeding only about half. Tonight's numbers are 24ml's of 37. Not bad. We'll take it.

Dad is excited that he's had a strong heart today. I know it may be frustrating but when Aiden comes home, he will require much of the same care and attention. Careful handling. Sanitary practices. Limited sharing. Lots of rest. He won't be able to be passed around much. He'll need to be closely monitored but for the most part just observed and loved for a while so he can build his strength and save his energy for feeds and growth. He'll need to be left alone for the most part. This means that healthy limits need to be respected...for Aiden's sake. Believe me, I could hold him forever but I've learned from the nurses and doctors that leaving him to rest in his crib is the best thing for him.

When Aiden does come home, please be mindful that we will have our own adjusting to do. We'll need some time with Aiden and time to get our selves conditioned and in sync. The first couple of weeks will be an adventure I'm sure, so please call first if you plan to come visit. Be flexible and patient. Too much company at once could be too much just as constant visitors throughout the day can be just as tiring. We'll need our down dtime as well.

Thanks for understanding.

  2. It sounds like you guys are thinking about the reality of all this. That's good. Hopefully, all 5 of you will adjust quickly to a new home situation. This is wonderful news. I remember bringing Allison home and that first night - every little sound she made, both Paul and I would wake up. Where's the nurse when you need one. Oh yeah, that would be us. Now, she's a senior in High School!

    Take care and Lots of Love;
