12/03/09 - PM Update

Aiden's weight earlier today was 3 lbs 10 oz. Nice gain for one day.

He's having trouble sucking the bottle so they are cutting him back on bottle feedings to every other feeding. Interim feedings will be through the feeding tube. He's also not getting much out of the bottle and seems to be getting tired after just a few ml's. What he doesn't suck down they squirt into the feeding tube. He's up to 13ml at each feeding and is doing okay on digestion so far.

Aiden's next chest xray is scheduled for Monday to check for fluid buildup.

The geneticist is supposed to be in tomorrow and should be calling with lab results and updated information. She's supposed to be top notch so we're anxious to hear from her.

Aiden only had one reported heart alarm today. Apnea is common and his isn't too bad right now. Scary for us but the nurses are on top of it.

The doctor on duty tonight called Aiden the "amazing shrinking baby." Pretty sure it was a compliment.

Since he's holding his temp well they are going to move him to an open crib sometime overnight. Same room and level 3 NICU but a good chance to see how he'll do in a less controlled environment.

Overall, a pretty good day for Aiden. Looking for many more.

  1. It sounds like Aiden is just truckin' along. Eating well, too. I wouldn't worry too much about the bottle feeding - afterall, he's -6 weeks and even Nat had a little problem learning the sucking action technique.

    Moving to an open crib is a big step. It will even help with your moods. And, if they have to move him back to the isolette, don't worry, they'll try the open crib at a little later. There seems to be only one way to find out if Aiden's ready and that is to try.

    Love ya lots and still praying;
