Developmental Therapist visit - 4-15-10

After yesterday's drama I was afraid to see what today's appointment would bring. Nevertheless, I picked up Aiden from daycare and met the 1st shift caregivers. One of the ladies who is super nice, but I'm thinking her Happy Meal might be a few fries short. She went to pick up Aiden out of his crib and said..."You know, I think he looks Asian." Who says that?? I looked into one of the infants mirrors and replied, "Nope not Asian!" WOW!

We went to the developmental therapists office which was in the same office as Aiden had his circumcision. Glad he was sleeping he could have had bad flashbacks.

The doc checked him out from head to toe. She had him follow pictures to check for vision and tracking. Thumbs up for Aiden on that one. She was pleased with his head control. She also commented how beautiful and symmetrical he is. Beautiful I get but Symmetrical??? Must be a doctor thing.

Now for the more interesting part of the visit..she placed Aiden on his tummy. Even though he has rolled over for us a couple of times he is definitely not consistant. When he lays on his tummy he doesn't use his arms to support him. She tried to have him hold her hands and pull up as well. She also noted that when he sits up he doesn't tend to move his arms around. Her suggestion is for Aiden to start physical therapy to strengthen his upper body strength as he has low muscle tone.

She wanted to see his reaction to sound for herself. She brought in a bell like the old school marms used back in Little House in the Prairie times... She rang it behind both ears and above his head...no reaction....SHOCKER! She rang it in front of him and he looked at it. She noted it was most likely a visual response. He gets that from his mom...if you wave something that sparkles and shines in my face I will look too...(hint, hint Daddy...Mother's Day is coming up).

One thing I found really interesting, the doc questioned if his heart condition will make him tired. I know he is a baby...but the boy sleeps ALL the time. He is rarely up for longer than an hour. Just something for us to keep in mind.

Overall, good visit... she would like to see him back in 6 months to check on progress. We will see what Early steps will do for us in the way of therapies.
