What a crazy few days it has been. Jeff and I stayed the night in the nesting room on Christmas Eve. The heart monitor went off several times, but Aiden was fine. The pads used to monitor his heart kept falling off. So mom learned how fast she could leap out of bed. It was a good test run.

He started not eating as much as he had been on the 24th. However, it didn't seem to be a deciding factor in his discharge. He did not eat near what he had been during the test run with mom and dad either. Prior to the 24th, he was having an intake of 60 ml (2 oz) in about 15 minutes. Since the 24th he had an average of 30 mls and it has been taking 30 minutes or more to eat.

Mom and Dad really weren't sure what to do, especially since it's a holiday weekend and Aiden has not been able to see the pediatrician. So we waited...maybe this feed will be better...and we waited...maybe this one. The nurses told us that Aiden will tell us when he is hungry, but no longer than 4 hours between feeds. He would not initiate feeds and we would not let him go longer than 4 hours, but waited in hopes that he would say, "Feed me!" Not so much. He was also going extended time with dry diapers. Finally, on Sunday we decided to call the NICU to get their take on the situation. After the neonatologist heard about his feeding cycle, he suggested we take Aiden to Winter Park hospital for admission. It's about 3 or 4 miles farther than where Aiden was in NICU. So mom and Aiden get to hang out and be roomies.

Where we are at this point....in the hospital for observation. Dr. is asking for strict in/out documentation and then go from there. Will update when we know more!

  1. Hi, Guys...it's Lisa. I'm so sorry to hear that you guys had to come back to the hospital!! They have the same docs at Winter Park as they do here. Hopefully you will get to go home soon. You are in my prayers.
